I use a proven system for working on projects to ensure that I produce solid professional copy that’ll get you the results you desire. My writing process has ten basic steps:
Step 1: Project Submission
You kick start the process by submitting your project — your submission should include the following:
#1. The name of your product or service.
#2. The kind of copy you need e.g. landing page, blog post, auto-responder series, sales letter etc.
#3. The desired length of the copy. i.e. number of words or pages.
#4. The purpose of the copy. e.g. generate leads or sales, raise money, launch a new product or service, raise awareness, etc.
#5. The target market of your copy. i.e. describe your target audience in detail down to what brand of coffee they drink if you can.
#6. The expected day of delivery i.e. the deadline date you want to receive the copy.
Step 2: Discussing the project
We’ll then discuss the finer details of your project. I’ll ask you a couple of questions to make sure I fully grasp what you want to do. Depending on the nature of the project I may ask you to fill a questionnaire.
Please be clear on what you want to do and achieve. The clearer you are the more likely you are to get exactly what you want.
If you can’t figure out what type of copy you need to achieve your goals I’m happy to help you for free.
Step 3: Free Quotation
Once I’ve established that we’re a good fit and have a clear sense of the project scope I’ll give you a firm figure of the investment you have to make in order for us to partner on your special project. Check my rates here if you want item by item pricing or go here if you’re interested in package pricing.
N.B A quotation is free. You’re under no obligation to work with me simply because you’ve asked for a quote.
Step 4: Down payment
When you’re ready for me to promptly start working on your project, you pay half of the quoted investment figure and sign the contract I’ll send you. Please note that projects worth less than $1000 are paid 100% upfront.
Step 5: Material gathering
You’ll then give me all the materials and background literature you may have on hand to enable me to write your copy.
These materials may include transcripts, notes, current and past marketing material, reader avatars, mission statements, articles, style guides, product specifications, website links etc. Don’t worry about organizing anything. I’ll do that.
Step 6: Research and writing
With your material on my table, I immerse myself in your background material, do the necessary research, develop a concept, outline, and write your copy laboring over each word until it comes out just right. At this point I’ll give you a brief outline of what I intend to do and the direction I intend to take. After you’ve given the thumbs up I’ll proceed with the project.
Step 7: Review of first draft
I’ll then submit the first draft for your consideration. You’ll note the areas of the copy that need revision.
Step 8: Editing and proofing
I’ll then fine tune and revise the writing using your feedback until you’re happy.
Step 9: Payment
As soon as you give the final approval of the project and receive the finished product, you pay the balance of my fee within 30 days.
Step 10: Results and transition into new projects
Once your project is complete, I appreciate it if you keep me posted on the results. We’ll then explore other ways of partnering together for our mutual benefit.
*** Reporting Structure
I work best when there is a single editor giving feedback rather than a committee pulling in lots of directions. If other people in your company need a say, gather their ideas together and then present them to me as a single and cohesive brief for revisions. My preferred method of communication is email although I do take calls when necessary.
*** My Triple Guarantee To You
While I cannot guarantee specific results, I do guarantee that the copy I write will please you. If you’re not completely satisfied, I’ll rewrite the sections in question based on your specific guidelines…at no extra charge.
My second promise to you is that I’ll produce work that’s specific to you, your needs, and guidelines.
Finally, not only will your copy be done right and tailor-made for you, it will be done on time. You won’t have to chase me to make your deadline.
